The Husson Eagles broke a scoreless tie with a four run fourth inning on Saturday afternoon, and defeated the SUNY-Cobleskill Tigers 6-3 in the North Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament at O’Keefe Field in Bangor. The win advances the Eagles into the Championship Round on Sunday afternoon.
Husson (25-9) scored two runs on wild pitches in the decisive fourth inning, and also got a two-run triple from Madelyn Fowler. Another wild pitch and a sacrifice fly for an RBI by Teagan Blackie in the sixth made it 6-0. SUNY-Cobleskill, who had their 11 game win streak snapped, scored on an RBI double from Alexis Miranda and a two-run error in the seventh inning. Katie Raymond had three hits to lead the way for the winners. Jen Jones (6-1) got the win in the circle allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in the complete 7.0 inning effort. The Tigers who were later eliminated on Saturday, end their season at 15-15.
Husson (2-0 in the NAC Tournament) will now face Thomas College in the Championship Round beginning Sunday at 12 p.m. The Eagles need just one win to advance to the NCAA Division III National Tournament, and will have two chances to do so. The Terriers (19-16), who were beaten by Husson on a two-run walkoff homerun by Kenzie Dore in the eighth inning on Friday afternoon, kept their season alive with three wins on Saturday over SUNY-Canton 9-0, Cazenovia College 10-6, and SUNY-Cobleskill 6-4.
