The University of Maine softball team ended their 2022 regular season with a 6-2 loss at Hartford on Saturday afternoon, while the win streak for Maine baseball ended at 14 with a 5-2 loss in game two of their America East series at UMass-Lowell.
At West Hartford, Connecticut the Hartford Hawks softball team scored five first inning runs capped off by a three-run homerun by Julianna Kocenski to finish off a three game sweep of Maine. Kocenski (9-14) also got the win in the circle allowing two runs on seven hits in a complete 7.0 inning effort. Izzy Nieblas had an RBI sacrifice fly and Mariah Pearson an RBI groundout for the Black Bears. Caitlyn Fallon (3-5) took the pitching loss allowing six runs (only one earned) on nine hits in 6.0 innings. Maine finished off a very tough regular season at 8-35, 4-12 in conference play and will now compete in the America East Tournament that starts Wednesday which will be hosted by Binghamton University in Vestal, NY.
At Lowell, Massachusetts Jacob Humphrey had two hits and two RBI and Joshua Baker pitched a strong 8.0 innings in leading the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks past Maine in the middle game of a three game America East baseball series. The loss ends the 14 game win streak for the Black Bears. Brandon Fish also added two hits for UMass-Lowell, while Becker allowed just two runs and scattered seven hits to improve his pitching record to 4-4. Quinn McDaniel and Connor Goodman both had two hits and an RBI each for Maine, and Caleb Leys (3-2) took the loss on the hill allowing three runs on five hits in 5.0 innings. The Bears will try to win their seventh conference series out of the eight played this season in the rubber game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
