The Husson Eagles defeated SUNY-Cobleskill on Monday 7-4 to advance to the Championship Round of the North Atlantic Conference Tournament at Fightin Tiger Field in Cobleskill, New York. Husson has now won 14 games in a row.
The teams swapped a run over the first three innings as Jackson Curtis hit an RBI for the Eagles in the bottom of the first inning, and David Flora did the same for the Tigers in the third. Austin Snow put top seeded Husson ahead for good in the fourth with a two-run single. SUNY-Cobleskill came back with an RBI double from Zach Ducorsky in the top of the fifth inning, before the Eagles with a 4-2 lead tacked on three more runs in the bottom half of the sixth to make it 7-2. Josh Scott had an RBI single, Snow scored on a Kobe Rogerson fielders choice, and Tanner Evans walked with the bases loaded. The Fightin Tigers scored a pair in their last at bat in the ninth on a Ducorsky RBI groundout and an RBI double from Eddy Garcia. Cobleskill had the tying run at the plate, but Husson reliever Ryan Robb struck out Sam Gutierrez to end it.
Scott and Tyler Parke had two hits each to lead Husson (23-15). Harrison Lendrum (3-3) got the win on the mound allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Jake Gregoire allowed two runs in 2.2 innings, with Robb recording the final two outs of the game. Logan Hutter had two hits for SUNY-Cobleskill, with Devin Lewis (4-4) taking the pitching loss allowing three earned runs in 4.0 innings. The Eagles will play East Division rival Thomas College (17-25) on Tuesday at 11 a.m., needing just one win out of a possible two games to advance to the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament. The Terriers would need two wins over Husson to capture the NAC crown. Thomas ended season for the hosts on Monday afternoon in an elimination contest 24-8, as SUNY-Cobleskill ends their season at 21-20. Husson won the head to head with Thomas College in the regular season 4-0.
The Husson Eagles softball team found out on Monday that they’re heading to Amherst, Massachusetts for their NCAA Division III Tournament Regional. Husson (26-9) will face the host Amherst College Mammoths in the opener on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Eagles went 3-0 in the NAC Tournament this past weekend to win their fourth straight conference title. The Mammoths (24-7) also went 3-0 over the weekend to win the NESCAC Championship. Virginia Wesleyan (33-11) and the University of Rochester (26-13) are the other two teams in the double elimination regional. Virginia Wesleyan is a three-time Division III National Champion, and are the defending title winners.
