The New England Patriots announced they have traded fourth year and former fourth round pick Jarrett Stidham to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for some 2023 draft picks on Thursday. Stidham will reunite with former New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who is now the head coach in Las Vegas.
Stidham, who appeared in eight games with New England with no starts, will compete for a backup role in Las Vegas behind their starting quarterback Derek Carr. Stidham, who was mostly used in mop up duty behind Cam Newton in 2020, has only thrown 48 NFL passes completing 24 of them for 270 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions. The Patriots send a 2023 seventh round pick along with Stidham to the Raiders, while they send back a sixth round pick in next years draft to New England.
Behind Carr, Stidham joins a Raiders depth chart that includes Nick Mullens, Garrett Gilbert, and rookie free agent Chase Garbers. With Stidham now out of the mix, the Patriots still have Brian Hoyer as QB2, and this years draft choice Bailey Zappe as a third string developmental option behind starter Mac Jones.
