The Central Maine Community Mustangs (CMCC) softball team and the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves (SMCC) baseball team were both eliminated from the USCAA Small College World Series Tournament in Dubois, Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
CMCC softball, after a tough 2-1 walkoff loss to Penn State Schuylkill on Monday, would see their season end with a 12-2 loss in five innings to Penn State Hazleton on Tuesday morning. Olivia Gallan had two of the six hits for the Mustangs, and Haley Fernald along with Olivia Scott had an RBI each. Freshman Avery Herrick (10-5) took the loss in the circle allowing 12 runs (just four earned) with two walks and four strikeouts. CMCC committed four errors in the defeat, ending a very successful season with a final record of 22-12-1.
SMCC baseball, who lost Monday to the top seed and host school Penn State Dubois 10-3, would head home after falling to Bucks County Community College 7-4 Tuesday afternoon. Andrew Martin had two hits for the Seawolves, and Anthony Sayers had a two-run double. Sayers (0-2) took the pitching loss allowing five runs on nine hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 5.0 innings. SMCC finished up with a record of 25-13.
