Cooper Flagg competes internationally for the first time, as USA U17 wins their first two games of pool play

Newport native and 15 year old Cooper Flagg, who was a freshman player at Nokomis Regional High School last winter leading the Warriors to a Class A State Championship, has now played two games internationally in helping the Team USA Under 17 team win their first two pool contests in the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup in Spain.

The 6 foot 8 Flagg, in the opener of Cup competition on Saturday, scored three points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and blocked three shots in almost 20 minutes of action in a 120-44 win over Lebanon. Flagg had a better offensive showing on Sunday, scoring 12 points, adding eight rebounds, and registering another blocked shot in 14 minutes in yet another USA win over Slovenia 88-55.

The United States (2-0) leads Group C with one pool game remaining on Tuesday at 2:45 Eastern Standard Time when they face Mali. The Round of 16 (playoffs) begin on Wednesday, July 6 with the times to be determined. The championships and medal rounds will take place Friday through Sunday.
