23 year old right handed prospect pitcher Brayan Bello (Bay-o) has been called up from the Triple A Worcester WooSox by the Boston Red Sox and is set to make his MLB debut on the hill on Wednesday night at Fenway Park against the Tampa Bay Rays.
In a corresponding move ahead of his debut, Boston designated reliever Hansel Robles on assignment to Worcester. Bello has dazzled in the minors this season going 4-2 in Portland with the Sea Dogs with a 1.60 earned run average, and 6-2 in Worcester with a 2.81 ERA. Overall down in the farm for 2022, the native of the Dominican Republic has pitched 85 innings allowing 22 earned runs on 55 hits with 33 walks to go along with 114 strikeouts. He has also limited the long ball with only six hit against him in the 14 starts (15 appearances) between Portland and Worcester. Bello owns a career minor league record of 29-19 in five years within the Red Sox system.
Boston (45-36) is currently on a 14 game, 14 day swing against only Tampa Bay and the NY Yankees. The Rays won Tuesday nights game against Nick Pivetta 8-4, after Boston had won the opener of the three game series by a score of 4-0 on the Fourth of July. The Sox currently sit one game ahead of Tampa and 1.5 better than Toronto for the top American League wildcard spot.
