Peyton Grant received and accepted an offer from Shepherd University of West Virginia to play basketball at the Division II school.
Grant scored 1531 points in her high school career at Dexter. She surpassed the 1000 point mark during her junior season. During her senior season, high school games were limited due to Covid. Grant still managed to average 27.5 points, 3.7 steals, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.
With options limited on college rosters after the 2020/2021 season as student/athletes were able to gain a year of eligibility due to the pandemic, Grant decided to play a year at a prep school. She attended the New Hampton School in New Hampton, NH for Coach Jamie Sherburne. Grant was selected to the NEPSAC Class AA All-Star Team averaging 15.5 points per game. Playing at the highest level of the NEPSAC helped Grant improve her game.
New Shepherd University Coach Julie Kaufman offered Grant the DII scholarship. The opportunity to play basketball at a solid program along with the school having a good nursing program made the decision for Grant easy. Kaufman was on the coaching staff when Sherburne (Grant’s coach at New Hampton) played at Division I Niagara.
The Rams play in the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference). They went 25-8 overall last season, including 16-6 in conference play. They reached the NCAA II Atlantic Regional Tournament where they fell 82-70 to eventual national champion Glenville State.
