A big sigh of relief for Boston Red Sox fans. The team said Wednesday afternoon that x-rays on both second baseman Trevor Story and relief pitcher Matt Strahm came back negative.
Both players were hurt in a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday night. Story was hit on the wrist as he swung in the fifth inning and has a right hand contusion, and Strahm has a left hand contusion after he was hit on a 98 MPH line drive by Taylor Walls in a three run sixth inning helped by two errors that propelled Tampa to the victory. Story was replaced by Jeter Downs during the at bat, and Strahm also left the game. It is unclear whether either of them will avoid the injured list, as they wait to see how they feel when they arrive at the park today. A source close to the team says as of now no IL moves are planned. Boston continues their two week stretch against Tampa Bay and the New York Yankees with game three of four at Tropicana Field with the Rays Wednesday night, where the Sox have dropped the first two.
