Add the Boston Celtics to the list of teams that have engaged in discussions with the Brooklyn Nets to possibly acquire Kevin Durant according to Shams Charania of the Athletic on Monday morning.
Boston offered Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and a draft pick to Brooklyn for Durant but the Nets rejected the offer and countered with wanting Brown, Marcus Smart, draft picks, and potentially another rotation player in exchange for the 12 time All-Star. The Celtics haven’t responded to the latest offer, but sources say Brad Stevens and the team is mulling over the options. Durant, who will turn 34 this September, signed a four year, $198 million dollar extension with Brooklyn in August 2021 before asking to be traded back on June 30. The Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat are among the other Eastern Conference teams also in the race to acquire Durant.
Durant is a 14 year veteran who has averaged 27.2 points per game, 7.1 assists, and 4.3 assists in his career. He is also a two-time NBA Champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP, and a league MVP (2013-14).
