Queen City beats Bessey Motors twice to capture the Maine State Senior Legion Baseball Title

July 28, 2022

The Queen City Athletics Senior Legion baseball team needed two wins over Bessey Motors on Wednesday at Husson University in Bangor to win the state legion title, and they did just that.

In game one, Anthony Chiappone had an eighth inning RBI double that made the difference as the Riverdogs (based out of Hampden) forced a winner take all with a 5-3 extra innings victory. In the second and decisive game, Ethan Phelps held Bessey Motors (Oxford) to just a run on the mound and the Queen City offense came from RBI hits by Logan Burns, Kam Hale, and two from Colin Peckham part of a 4-1 victory to send them to the regionals. Chiappone (Brewer High School Grad) finished it off by pitching the seventh inning and earned the MVP of the tournament.

Queen City will head to Holy Cross in Massachusetts in early August to face the Senior American Legion Champions from Rhode Island in the New England Regionals.
