New England Patriots running back James White has said he is retiring from the NFL on Thursday morning. The news was first reported by ESPN NFL Insider/Analyst Field Yates.
White was drafted out of Wisconsin by New England in the fourth round in 2014 (130th overall). He has spent his entire eight year career with the Patriots, and is best remembered for his performance in the 28-3 Super Bowl LI comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons on February 5, 2017. White rushed for the game winning touchdown in overtime, his second of the game and set Super Bowl records for points scored (20), and receptions for a running back (14 for 110 yards and a score), while also tying a record with three total touchdowns. Injuries hampered him in 2021, as he only appeared in three games and was dealing with injuries in training camp this season that has kept him off the field. Overall, White played in 95 games rushing for 1,278 yards on 319 attempts with 11 TDs. He did alot of his damage in the passing game finishing his career with 381 receptions on 511 targets for 3,278 yards and 25 TDs to along with three Super Bowl Titles in Foxborough. White with all the total touches in his career never had a lost fumble.
