The defending Eastern Conference Champion Boston Celtics had their 2022-23 schedule released by the league on Wednesday.
Boston opens the season on Tuesday, October 18th when they host the Philadelphia 76ers, and three days later travel to South Beach for a rematch with the Miami Heat who they faced in the Eastern Conference Finals that went seven games. Other notable matchups include a December 10th road trip to Golden State for an NBA Finals rematch with the Warriors, a Christmas Day 5 p.m. home contest with the Milwaukee Bucks, and also a visit from Golden State at TD Garden on January 19. The Celtics also have planned Bill Russell Tribute Nights on October 18 vs Philadelphia and February 12 vs the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Celtics finished 51-31 this past season, losing in six games in the NBA Finals to Golden State who finished the series in Boston back on June 16. The green, barring any trades leading up to the start of this season, will return the same starters that helped them finish second in the Eastern Conference that includes Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Robert Williams III, and Al Horford. The team has been in some talks with Brooklyn about acquiring Kevin Durant with Brown going to the Nets as part of the deal, but those talks have stalled out for the time being. They have also added depth in the offseason by acquiring guards Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari.
