The Penquis Patriots girls soccer team will have a good mix of experience and newcomers along with a new coach as they look to improve from a season where they struggled in 2021.
“This year, we will be focusing on implementing a possession – based style of play,” first year Coach Molly McGinn said. “It is my hope to build the program up and change the philosophy of play in the district.”
The Patriots lost two key players from last years squad but return a strong group that will provide plenty of leadership.
“Most of the team will be comprised of veteran athletes. Six of the starters will be seniors. They are gritty, fast, and determined to have a winning season,” McGinn said. “The incoming freshmen are a talented group as well that will get a considerable amount of playing time. I will be starting a freshman in goal, Brooklyn Decker, as she is six feet tall with quick hands and a considerable wingspan. I expect that this team will surprise some teams with their athleticism and ability to put the ball in the net.”
Penquis starts the season at Lee Academy on September 2nd.
