The Penobscot Valley girls soccer team has played only four games so far this season, but they have already netted 37 goals. Friday they went to Woodland on a windy day, and won against a previously undefeated team, 9-0. Lila Cummings continues to have a sensational start to her freshman year, as she recorded her third hat trick of the year and also dished out an assist.
After a scoreless first ten minutes, Cummings got things started as she drilled a low shot into the right corner of the goal unassisted. That goal would open the floodgates as the Howlers would score six times in the next twelve minutes. Rylee Moulton would strike next, as she went after an Ellie Austin cross and beat the keeper for the score. Moulton would then draw a penalty in the box, which led to a Kaya Loring penalty kick goal. A cross from Moulton three minutes later found Ashlyn St. Cyr, who promptly finished it with her opposite foot. The next goal came from Loring again, as she attacked and controlled a Woodland goal kick, and rifled a shot into the net from about 25 yards out. The final two goals of the half came from Cummings who once again scored unassisted, followed by a Cummings to Moulton pass, who put it past the keeper.
The second half only featured two goals, both about 90 seconds apart. Eleven minutes in senior captain Holly Loring scored off an assist by Austin. It was Holly’s first game and goal of the season, as she just returned from an injury. The final goal of the game came off the foot of Cummings again, which completed the hat trick and the 9-0 win.
With the win, PVHS improved to 4-0 on the season and recorded their 3rd straight shutout. Freshman goalie Lauryn Smart saved four of six shots for the Howlers, and they will travel to Bangor Christian on Tuesday.
The Lady Dragons lost their first game of the season and dropped to 3-1. Goalkeeper Victoria Siering had a busy day in net, seeing 54 shots and stopping 31 of them. Woodland will travel to Milo to play Penquis on Tuesday.
