Quarterback Lamar Jackson accounted for all five of his teams touchdowns on Sunday afternoon, as the Baltimore Ravens beat the New England Patriots 37-26 in the home opener for the Pats at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Jackson tossed two touchdowns in the first half to his tight end Mark Andrews, as Baltimore (2-1) had a slim 14-13 halftime lead. New England scored on a Mac Jones three yard touchdown run and two field goals from Nick Folk. The Patriots (1-2) took their second and last lead of the day early in the third quarter on a two yard run by Damien Harris, before the Ravens took the lead for good with a third TD pass from Jackson to Josh Oliver for 1 yard. He threw his final scoring pass to Devin Duvernay that made it 28-20. A one yard run for a score by Rhamondre Stevenson late in the third would the deficit for New England to 31-26, after they failed a two-point conversion. Rashod Bateman fumbled early in the fourth, and the Patriots recovered and had a great opportunity to re-take the lead at their opponents 39 yard line. The hosts couldn’t take advantage though, as Jones threw an interception in the endzone. After a punt, the Pats got the ball back and Jones would find Nelson Agholor for a 28 yard connection to the Baltimore 39 yard line but Agholor would fumble and the Ravens recovered. Jackson ended the scoring leading an eight play, 73 yard drive and found paydirt when he kept it himself for a nine yard TD run to put the game away with 3:07 left.
Jones would finish 22-32 passing for 321 yards and three interceptions, adding five rush attempts for 31 yards and a touchdown. Jones wasn’t putting any weight on his left leg and ankle after he was hit by Calais Campbell after throwing a late game interception. X-Rays were negative, but he is also expected to get an MRI on Monday. Stevenson had 13 carries for 73 yards and a TD, and Harris had 11 rushes for 41 yards and a score. Devante Parker has his best game so far as Patriot with five receptions for 156 yards. Devin McCourty had seven total tackles, while Jabrill Peppers and Deatrich Wise each had five. Peppers had a fumble recovery and Wise had three sacks. Folk set an NFL record with his 57th consecutive field goal made inside 50 yards. Jackson was 18-29 for 218 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. The dynamic QB also had 107 yards rushing and a TD. Andrews ended up with eight receptions for 89 yards and the two first half touchdowns. New England is in Green Bay to play the Packers next Sunday at 4:25 p.m.
