Husson men’s and women’s soccer off to strong conference start

The Husson University men’s and women’s soccer teams are off a solid start in North Atlantic Conference play. The women’s team is undefeated, while the men’s team is also unblemished with one tie thus far.

The men’s program is 4-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in NAC play coming off a conference tie 1-1 with SUNY Delhi and a 7-0 victory over SUNY Cobleskill at home this past weekend. Sophomore Arni Hreidarsson leads the team with three goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Alex Rechsteiner has started five games in goal, and is 4-0-1 recording three shutouts. Benjamin Powell has started the other three contests and has an 0-2-1 record. The Eagles host the University of New England in non-conference play Wednesday evening at 6 p.m., before more NAC action on Saturday also at home against the University of Maine-Presque Isle.

The women’s team is coming off a dominant two game NAC sweep over the weekend against SUNY Delhi and SUNY Cobleskill. The Eagles are now 5-5, 4-0 in the conference. Sophomore Natalie Aviolla has notched seven goals and two assists in the 10 games played. Hannah Kenney (3-2), and Madison Weigler (2-3) have been the starters in net. Kenney has two shutouts and Weigler has one. In the sweep over Delhi and Cobleskill, the Eagles won 6-0 and 7-0 and had a total of 50 shots on goal to just a total of two by their opponents. Husson plays at UNE Wednesday evening in non-conference, and then hosts UMPI in NAC action on Saturday.
