The Husson University men’s and women’s soccer teams along with the field hockey team stayed unbeaten in conference play over the weekend.
At the Winkin Complex on Saturday night, the Eagles field hockey team blanked Thomas College 3-0. Husson goals were by Maddie Perkins, Phoebe Carlock, and Adelle Foss all in the first half. Goaltender Kimmie Goddard made six saves for her third shutout of the season. Elise Syphers and Brennan Pinto combined to make six saves for the Terriers, who fell to 4-7 and 0-2 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). Husson is now 5-5, 2-0 in NECC and play at UMaine-Farmington on Tuesday.
At Northern Vermont-Johnson on Saturday afternoon, Arik Weinstein and Tyler Welch scored goals as the Eagles men’s soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout win. Alex Rechsteiner stopped all three shots in net for Husson. The Eagles completed the two game road weekend sweep when Pedro Molina scored two first half goals for a 3-1 victory over SUNY-Canton on Sunday. Florian Gasser tallied a second half goal as well, and Rechsteiner made four saves in the win. Husson is now 9-3-2, 6-0-1 in the North Atlantic Conference and will visit Northern Vermont-Lyndon on Saturday. The Badgers dropped to 2-6-2, 1-4-1 and the ‘Roos fell to 4-8-1, 3-2-1 in the losses.
The Eagles women’s soccer team had a dominant weekend at Northern Vermont-Johnson and SUNY-Canton posting 7-0 and 5-0 wins. Charlotte Messer had three goals in the Saturday win over NVU-Johnson, while Natalie Aviolla had two goals, and Alexa Thayer had one goal and one assist. On Sunday, Aviolla added two more goals and Messer had another in the victory over SUNY-Canton. Husson didn’t allow a shot on goal all weekend (180 minutes), outshooting their opponents by a total of 36-0. The Eagles improved to 7-6-1, 6-0-1 in the NAC and travel to Northern Vermont-Lyndon on Saturday. The Badgers fell to 0-5-4, 0-2-3 and the ‘Roos dropped to 0-10-2, 0-4-2 in the defeats.
