Abby Kraemer scored a tying goal in the second half on Thursday night, as the University of Maine women’s soccer team battled to a 1-1 America East tie with UMass-Lowell at Mahaney Diamond in Orono.
The Riverhawks carried play in the first half with a 6-2 shots on goal advantage, and took a 1-0 lead into halftime on a tally from Emily Nelson in the 17th minute. The shots were even in the second half and Kraemer would notch her fifth goal of the season unassisted with 26:17 to play that ended the scoring on the night. Maine (7-2-4, 3-0-3 America East) is now unbeaten in their last five games. Kira Kutzinski made 10 saves in net for the Black Bears, while Taylor Burgess made six for UMass-Lowell. The Riverhawks are now 6-5-3, 3-1-1 in the conference. Maine is currently in first place in America East and clinched a playoff spot in the tie, and will play again when they host Binghamton on Senior Day on Sunday at 12 p.m.
