Derek Forbort had a game winning third period goal, and A.J. Greer had two goals and an assist on Saturday night as the Boston Bruins beat the Arizona Coyotes 6-3 in the home opener at TD Garden in Boston.
First period goals by Pavel Zacha and Charlie Coyle staked Boston to a 2-0 lead. The tally by Zacha was on the powerplay and his first as a Bruin. Clayton Keller cut it to 2-1 on a powerplay goal at 6:21 of the second for Arizona, before Nick Foligno restored a two goal Bruins lead at 14:03. The Coyotes (0-2) battled back to tie it when Josh Brown even strength and Shayne Gostisbehere on the powerplay scored at 2:58 and 5:42 of the third period respectively to make it 3-3. Forbort notched that game winner for Boston at 9:29, before Greer scored at 12:49 and then had an empty netter at 17:12 to put it away. It is just the third and fourth career goals for Greer, and his first two this season.
Jeremy Swayman made 21 saves in net in his season debut in the victory. Zacha, Coyle, and Foligno each had one goal and one assist. Karel Vejmelka had 37 saves in the loss for Arizona. Boston (2-0) plays again at home on Monday when they face the Florida Panthers at 7 p.m.
