The University of Maine men’s and women’s ice hockey teams were in action this weekend in non-conference play. The women’s team hosted Long Island University on Friday and Saturday, while the men’s team played a single game at Bentley University Saturday evening.

Friday night at Alfond Arena- The UMaine women’s ice hockey team scored three first period goals and the first four of the game, and then held on for a 4-3 victory over LIU. Grace Heiting had two goals to lead the way, while Emma Lange added two assists. Morgan Trimper, Olivia King, Ava Stenvenson, and Elise Morphy had one assist a piece. At Bentley Ice Rink on Saturday evening- The Maine men’s ice hockey team got the first collegiate goal from Thomas Freel that opened the scoring, but that would be all they would muster in a 5-1 loss to the Bentley University Falcons in Waltham, Massachusetts. Bentley (1-2) took over after the goal by Freel, getting the tying goal from Harrison Scott later in the first period. In the second the Falcons scored three times. Josh Latta had the game winner at 3:54, Scott got his second of the game at 14:51, and Stephen Castagna tallied at 16:20. Nicholas Niemo would add an empty goal late in the third period. David Breazeale and Grayson Arnott had an assist each on the Freel goal for Maine, who drops to 1-2 in the early season. Jacob Mucitelli played the first 36:20 and had 16 saves in net in the loss, while Victor Ostman played the final 21:53 and had three stops. Connor Hasley had 33 saves for Bentley. The Black Bears open their home schedule next Saturday and Sunday when they host #8 Quinnipiac.
