Evan Donnell recorded a hat trick to lead the Bucksport Golden Bucks to a 4-0 win over the Orono Red Riots under the lights on Ritchie Field at Maine Maritime Academy on Monday night.
The Bucks paid homage to their six seniors and families before the game in a celebration of senior night. As the game kicked off Bucksport would quickly look to defend their chances of an undefeated season when Donnell would find Brandon Elden in front of the net where he would put a left footed shot behind the Orono keeper putting the Bucks up 1-0 in the second minute of play. Just minutes later it would be Donnell finding the back of the net on an assist from Jason Terrill. The score would remain at 2-0 with both teams seeing chances until the 40th minute when Evan Donnell would intercept a pass from the Orono defense and beat the keeper one on one to give Bucksport a 3-0 lead going into the half.
While Bucksport would control play in the second half, both teams would see chances and both goalies had to make terrific saves to keep the score from changing. In the 68th minute, Bucksport midfielder Diego Harvey would split the Riots’ defense finding Donnell once again who would score this third goal of the game widening the lead to 4-0. That is where the score would stay when the final buzzer went off, clinching Bucksport’s first undefeated 14-0 regular season. Bucksport looks to be the three seed in Northern Maine Class C and will await the winner of the 6 v 11 matchup.
