At TD Garden in Boston Saturday afternoon, Taylor Hall scored a game winning overtime goal as the Boston Bruins beat the Minnesota Wild 4-3.
Nick Foligno, David Pastrnak, and Hampus Lindholm also scored for Boston (5-1-0). The game winner for Hall came with 11 seconds left in the extra session. After a save by Minnesota goalie Marc-Andre Fleury on a snapshot by Patrice Bergeron in the high slot, the Bruins kept the puck in the zone. It would find the stick of Pastrnak, who went forehand to backhand from the left faceoff circle and sent a pass over to Hall in the right circle who one-timed it into the back of the net. Linus Ullmark made 24 saves in the victory, and Hall had a goal and two assists. Brandon Duhaime, Matt Boldy, and Jared Spurgeon scored for the 1-3-1 Wild. Andre-Fleury had 39 saves. Boston will host Dallas on Tuesday night.
At the Amway Center in Orlando Saturday night, Jayson Tatum scored 40 points in leading the Boston Celtics to a 126-120 victory over the Orlando Magic.
The game was tied 68-68 at the half, as both teams would hold a first half lead. A pair of free throws by Tatum with 4:08 left to play put Boston ahead for good at 113-111. He then nailed a huge three-pointer with 1:29 remaining to put it away, increasing the lead from five to eight. Tatum added eight rebounds and two blocks to his game high point total. Derrick White had 27 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Grant Williams and Malcolm Brogdon contributed 13 points each, and Jaylen Brown rounded out the double digit scorers with 12. Tatum passed Larry Bird for the franchise record with the most points in three games to start a season (104). The previous record by Bird was 96 back in 1984-85. Terrence Ross and Paolo Banchero led the Magic (0-3) in the loss with 29 and 23 points respectively. Boston wraps up their three game road trip in Chicago Monday night against the Bulls. The Celtics are 3-0 after also beating the Miami Heat in South Beach on Friday night in a rematch of the Eastern Conference Finals. The 3-0 start is the best since 2009, where the C’s won their first six games that season.
