The #23 University of Maine Field Hockey team finished the 2022 regular season on Friday and Sunday afternoon at the Maine Field Hockey Complex in Orono, and finished the conference season unbeaten with a pair of victories.
On Friday afternoon- Maine scored three of their four goals off penalty corner opportunities and beat Stanford 4-2. Sydney Meader scored the first of those, burying a rebound off a Poppy Lambert shot past Cardinal goalie Daisy Ford at 9:02 of the first quarter. Stanford (7-8, 3-4 America East) got the equalizer from Lynn Vanderstichele 3:11 into the second and it was tied 1-1 at the half. Chloe Walton put the Black Bears ahead for good scoring just 17 seconds into the third quarter. A Walton shot later in the period off a corner was turned away by Ford, but Molly Mackesy slammed the rebound into the back of the cage for a 3-1 advantage. The guests got within 3-2 when Haley Mossmer tallied 1:23 into the fourth, but Lambert scored 3:27 later to put it away. Meader, Walton, and Lambert each had a goal and an assist in the win while Mia Borley made eight saves in net. Ford ended up with six saves in the loss for Stanford.
On Sunday afternoon- Lambert had a hat trick, as Maine finished strong with a 6-2 win over the University of California-Davis. It was 1-1 early in the second quarter, before Bhreagh Kennedy scored to give the Black Bears the lead and Lambert then notched the game winner and first of the day with 1:11 left in the first half. Lambert added two more in the third, one on a penalty stroke. She finished with three goals and one assist, and had 21 goals total in the regular season. Tereza Holubcova had one goal and two assists, and Walton had a goal and an assist. Borley and Mallory Drayer both played in net and combined to make three saves. Lizzy Tedrow had a goal and an assist in the loss for UCD, as the Aggies finish up at 2-13, 1-7 in America East. Maine, who had clinched their second straight America East regular season title and homefield for the tournament next week, are now 14-4 (8-0 in conference).
