Nic Visser tossed three touchdown passes, and Tucker Buzzell set the single season tackles record as the Husson Eagles beat the Nichols College Bisons 27-14 on Senior Day at the Winkin Complex Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference football action.
Husson (5-4, 4-1 CCC) had an early 13-0 lead thanks to a 23 yard touchdown catch by Jed Lober from Visser, and a 76 yard connection from Visser to wide receiver Tyler Thompson. After Nichols College got on the board, Visser helped extend the halftime advantage to 21-7 on a four yard touchdown pass to Dom Wilson. Aaron Paradis added a pair of field goals in the second half, while the Bisons had the lone touchdown on a 17 yard pass from Xavier Powell to Hunter Ferreira. The Eagles defense was too much, intercepting Powell three times and had a total of eight tackles for loss in picking up their fourth consecutive win.
Visser finished the day 27-33 for 344 yards and three touchdowns. Lober had 16 rush attempts for 56 yards, while also adding five receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown. Thompson was the leading receiver with five catches for 111 yards, including the long 76 yard score. Cullen Casey and Jon Bell also had five receptions each for 64 and 53 yards respectively. Buzzell had 16 total tackles that included 2.5 for a loss, and a sack. He breaks a single season Husson record for total tackles that was previously held by Stephan Dance with 103 back in 2013. Buzzell now has 106 this year. Adam Ladipo had two interceptions, while Adam Bertrand had the other. Powell threw one touchdown and those three interceptions in the loss for Nichols College (24-36, 272 yards). Tiago Fernandes had one rushing score, and Ferreira had a receiving touchdown. The Bisons fall to 3-6, 0-5 in conference play. The Eagles play their regular season finale on the road next Saturday at Salve Regina. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
