Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for 61 points on Wednesday night, as the Boston Celtics breezed past the Detroit Pistons 128-112 at TD Garden for their fourth straight victory.
Boston (8-3) only trailed once by two points early, and led by as many as 12 in the first quarter 21-9 on a Malcolm Brogdon layup. Detroit cut into the lead slicing it to 40-37 on a dunk by Saddiq Bey with 6:17 left in the first half, before the Celtics ended that final 6:17 on a 23-12 run to push the advantage to 14 at the break. The closest the Pistons would get was 10 the rest of the way, as Boston would pull away building their biggest lead of 24 in the final period on a reverse dunk by Brown with 5:36 to play.
Tatum led all scorers finishing with 31 points and five assists in the victory. Brown had 30 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Sam Houser came off the bench to put in a career high 24 points (6-11 three-pointers), and Al Horford rounded out the double digit scorers with 13 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Marcus Smart only scored two points, but dished out a game-high 11 assists. Rookie Jaden Ivey led Detroit with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Bey had 18, and Bojan Bogdanovic had 17 points as the Pistons fall to 3-9. Up next, Boston will host the Denver Nuggets on Friday night at 7 p.m.
