Eli Soehren scored two touchdowns, including the game winner in the second quarter on Saturday to lead the Oxford Hills Vikings to their first ever football state championship by topping Thornton Academy 21-7 in the Class A Final at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.
Oxford Hills (11-0) had taken a 7-0 lead when Soehren scored on a short run in the first quarter. Thornton (8-3) would tie it when Ryan O’Keefe hit Henry Lausier for a 66 yard touchdown 19 seconds into the second. The Vikings would take the lead into halftime on the game winner by Soehren with his second short run for a score. Hunter Tardiff helped clinch the title when he intercepted O’Keefe and returned it 17 yards into the endzone with 5:13 left in the third quarter.
