PITTSFIELD- The MCI Huskies went on a 31-0 first half run and defeated the Orono Red Riots 62-23 in a season opening Class B girls basketball matchup at Wright Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Orono would get off to an early 6-2 lead in this one but that wouldn’t last long as MCI would quickly answer by outscoring the Red Riots 36-2 the remainder of the half, including 31 straight points that resulted in a 30 point lead going into the break. Kayleigh Dunton came off the bench and helped turn the tide of the game with 13 points. Ella Bernier also had 13 first half points. The second half would be more of the same, as the Huskies rolled to the victory. Dunton finished with 18 points and added six rebounds and four steals. Bernier had a double-double by adding 11 rebounds to her 13 points. Trinity Leavitt also added 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and six steals as the Huskies put eight players in the scorebook. Dunton was named the Bangor Savings Bank Player of the Game for her efforts. Orono was led by Emma Labelle who had 10 points and six rebounds. The Huskies also outrebounded the Red Riots 53-25.
