The University of Maine men’s hockey team had three different goal scorers on Saturday afternoon, and shutout Canisius College 3-0 at the Alfond Arena in Orono.
Maine got the only goal they needed when Cole Hanson tallied on the powerplay 10:26 into the second period to snap a scoreless tie. Jakub Sirota extended the lead with another powerplay goal 8:06 into the third. Lynden Breen finished off the scoring with an empty net goal with 29 seconds left to play. Luke Antonacci, Ben Poisson, Nolan Renwick, and Thomas Freel all had one assist each in the victory. Victor Ostman stopped all 22 shots in net for his second shutout of the season. Oliver Tarr and Keaton Mastrodonato combined for 10 of the 22 shots on net in the loss for Canisius College. Jacob Barczewski had 23 saves for the Griffins out of the Atlantic Hockey Association, as their record drops to 5-11-2.
Maine has now won four games in a row as they head into the Christmas break ending the first half of the season with a record of 6-8-1. The Black Bears return to action on Friday, December 30 when they head out on the road to begin a two game non-conference series at Colgate.
