Brayden Brown had a game high 26 points on Wednesday night, in helping the Old Town Coyotes to a 67-49 Class B Big East Conference boys basketball win over the Presque Isle Wildcats in Presque Isle.
After the game was deadlocked early on at 4-4, Old Town went on a 9-0 run and outscored Presque Isle 17-3 the remainder of the first quarter to begin pulling away. Grayson Thibeault had a pair of steals and two easy layups to finish off the 9-0 spurt. Brown had a huge first half, as he scored 19 of his 26 over the first 16 minutes as the Coyotes built the advantage to 41-18 at the halftime break. It was more of the same in the second half as the lead would grow to as many as 26. The Wildcats did get back within 16 with just over two minutes to play but was too little too late, as PI drops to 0-2.
Along with the game high from Brown, Thibeault added nine points while Carson Ellis and Brendan Mahaney had eight points a piece in the win for 2-0 Old Town. Malachi Cummings had 16 points in the loss for Presque Isle, while Jack Buck chipped in 11 points. The Coyotes went 12-17 from the foul line, and the Wildcats were 17-20 including 9-9 from Cummings. Old Town has their next game next Wednesday night at 7 in their home opener against Washington Academy. Presque Isle is on the road this Saturday afternoon when they visit John Bapst at 3:30.
