Chandler Jones intercepted a Jakobi Meyers lateral and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown on the last play of the game on Sunday evening, as the Las Vegas Raiders topped the New England Patriots 30-24 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas (6-8) had built a 17-3 halftime lead on the strength of a pair of Derek Carr touchdown passes of 25 yards to Darren Waller and five yards to Mack Hollins. A 16 yard Kyle Dugger pick six and a field goal by Nick Folk cut the New England deficit to 17-13 in the third quarter, before Folk connected again from 54 yards with 12:57 left to play that made it a one point game. The Patriots then took their first lead when Rhamondre Stevenson scored on a 34 yard run with 3:51 remaining. Mac Jones hit Meyers on a two-point conversion to make it 24-17. The Raiders got back even late that included a Carr 12 yard completion to Hollins on a 4th and 10 and a 20 yard pass to Waller. Carr then hit Keelan Cole for a 30 yard touchdown with 37 seconds to go. It looked as if Cole had one foot out on the catch, but after review the scoring play was confirmed. New England got one more chance but looked to be playing for overtime with three seconds showing on the clock, running a draw play to Stevenson who ran up the sideline to near the Las Vegas 30 yard line. Stevenson though would lose control of it as he was about to be tackled and Meyers caught the juggled ball with no time left. Meyers reversed field back to the Raiders 40 and tried throwing it across the field to his quarterback Jones at the Patriots 48. The throw was easily intercepted by Chandler Jones, who stiff armed Mac and ran into the endzone to end it.
Jones would finish 13-31 passing for 112 yards and didn’t throw a touchdown or an interception in the loss for New England. Stevenson rushed 19 times for 172 yards and a touchdown. Pierre Strong Jr. had the most receptions with three, while both Meyers and Jonnu Smith led in yards receiving with 47 and 24 respectively (two catches each). Ja’Whaun Bentley had six total tackles and a sack to lead the defense. Carr was 20-38 for 231 yards with three touchdowns and an interception in the win for Las Vegas. Josh Jacobs carried 22 times for 93 yards, while Cole, Waller, and Hollins had one scoring catch each. Denzel Perryman had eight tackles. Next up, the Patriots (7-7) will host the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Gillette Stadium.
