The Old Town Coyotes put three players in double figures led by 16 points from Braydon Brown, in cruising to a 70-23 Class B boys basketball win over Washington Academy in their home opener at MacKenzie Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Old Town (3-0) scored the first nine points of the game to gain control early. With the score 17-3, the Coyotes really put some distance between themselves and the visitors from Washington Academy with a 17-0 run that lasted into the second quarter. They would lead by as many as 35 in the opening 16 minutes and 45-12 at halftime, as the leading scorer in the game Brown had 13 of his 16 in the first half. Old Town would then keep it rolling in the third outscoring WA 23-4 and gaining their largest lead of the night by the end of the period at 68-16.
Brown made four three-pointers on the night to help lead Old Town to the victory. Emmitt Byther added 14 points, and Carson Ellis also got into double figures with 12. Grayson Thibeault and Brendan Mahaney chipped in seven points a piece, while Gabe Gifford and Logan Brown each contributed six. Gabe Leighton and Max Cates had seven points a piece in the loss for 2-1 Washington Academy. The Raiders return to action on the road at Foxcroft Academy on Friday at 1:30 p.m., while the Coyotes have an early season showdown at home with the defending regional champions from Ellsworth next Tuesday at 1:30.
