Howlers make great comeback to shock Southern Aroostook

January 5, 2023

The heavyweight matchup between the Penobscot Valley Lady Howlers and the visiting Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors    lived up to the hype with PVHS earning the comeback 53-51 victory in Howland.

With five seconds remaining, PVHS senior Holly Loring was fouled on a lay up attempt with the game tied at 51. She was able to seal the game knocking down both free throws.

The Lady Warriors lead 30-19 at halftime on great shooting from behind the arc. They continued their hot shooting in the third, building the lead up to 46-27 late in the quarter and held a 14 point lead going into the final period.

The PVHS defensive intensity stepped up in the fourth quarter to quickly erase the Southern Aroostook lead. The teams went back and forth to finish the game with PVHS coming back to earn the victory.

Sophomore guard Ellie Austin had 19 points, while freshman Lila Cummings recorded her first double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
