GUILFORD- Brylee Ricker sparked a third quarter surge that helped the Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates to a 39-35 girls basketball win over Valley on Saturday afternoon.
PCHS used strong defense to jump out to a 9-4 lead after the first quarter. Abbey Ricker (4) and Brooke Hunt (3) combined for seven points in the quarter. With Abbey Ricker and Ava Goulette in foul trouble, Valley took advantage by scoring 17 points in the second quarter and held a 21-17 halftime advantage. Madeline Hill scored nine points in the second for the Cavaliers.
The third quarter was the Brylee Ricker show as she put in seven points as the Pirates outscored Valley 15-10 in the period to take a 32-31 lead into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter PCHS stepped up the defense, holding Valley to one field goal. Brylee Ricker made two free throws and Abbey Ricker made a three pointer in the fourth quarter to help secure the win.
Madeline Hill led the Lady Cavaliers with a game high 13 points, five rebounds, and three blocks. Bri Hill added 12 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Valley (5-2) will host Pine Tree on Monday.
Brylee Ricker scored a team high 12 points (2 three-pointers) for the Pirates and added five rebounds. Abbey Ricker had 10 points (2 three-pointers) and five rebounds. Brooke Hunt had six points (2 three-pointers). Goulette and Kendall Kimball filled up the stat sheet. Goulette had four points, nine rebounds, three blocks, two assists, and two steals. Kimball had three points, 13 rebounds, and five steals. Hope Hunt and Katelynn White chipped in with two points each. It was a big heal point win over the top team in Class D South for the Pirates. PCHS (5-3) will play at Greenville on Tuesday.
