MILO— The Penquis Patriots outscored PCHS 9-3 in the fourth quarter to grab a 29-26 girls basketball win on Saturday afternoon at Oakes Gymnasium.
The Pirates jumped out to a 10-7 lead after the first quarter behind four points each from Kendall Kimball and Ava Goulette.
With both teams playing full court tenacious defense, foul trouble became an issue for both teams. Neither team could take advantage from the free throw line, both went 2-7 from the line in the second quarter. PCHS held the slim 14-11 halftime lead.
Highlights
The teams played an even (9-9) third quarter. Goulette scored four points in the quarter for the Pirates, while Rachel Broussard and Addison Conklin each had four for the Patriots. Jessica Broussard stepped up on both sides of the ball in the final eight minutes, putting in six points in the quarter and playing lock down defense.
Goulette recorded nine points, 13 rebounds, five blocks, and three steals to lead the Pirates. Kimball had eight points, six rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Abbey Ricker and Brylee Ricker had three points each. Abbey Ricker also had three steals. Katelynn White and Hope Hunt had three points and one point respectively. PCHS (6-4) will host Searsport on Tuesday night. The game can be seen live on Eastern Maine Sports Media.
Jessica Broussard led the Patriots with nine points (2 three pointers), six steals, and four rebounds. Rachel Broussard had five points, six rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Conklin recorded five points, 10 rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. Abbie Conlogue, Aileen Strout, Imaan Ali, and Brooklyn Decker each had two points, while Rylee Heal put in one free throw. Jessica Broussard was named Bangor Savings Bank player of the game. The win moved the Patriots up to the 13th spot in the Class C North standings, the top 13 at the end of the season will qualify for the tournament. Penquis (6-6) is scheduled to play at PVHS on Monday.
