PITTSFIELD- Saige Evans had a double double with a game high 22 points, and Gabrielle Cody added 14 points on Saturday afternoon as the Old Town Coyotes girls basketball team stayed unbeaten at the top of Class B North with a 47-25 victory over MCI.
A slow paced first quarter saw Old Town scoring all eight points in the period, helped by five points from Taylor Loring for an 8-0 lead. The Coyotes build that advantage to 20-6 in the second, before the home Huskies would slice it to 20-10 at halftime sparked by six bench points from Kayleigh Dunton. Six points each from Evans and Cody in the third quarter would help lead to a 12-0 Old Town run to start the second half, and the Coyotes would cruise the rest of the way to improve to 14-0.
Evans added 15 rebounds to her point total in the Old Town win, and Cody would add seven rebounds. Evans was named the Bangor Savings Bank Player of the Game. Loring ended up with seven points, three rebounds, and five steals as the Coyotes had a total of 14 steals on the afternoon. Makayla Emerson had three points and four steals, and Taylor Madden had one free throw for one point. Dunton led MCI (7-5) in the loss with 10 points, Ella Bernier had eight, Hannah Robinson four, Skyla Dean two, and Trinity Leavitt put in a free throw for one point. Old Town outrebounded MCI 33-15, while the Coyotes were 12-20 from the foul line and the Huskies went 1-4. Old Town next plays on Wednesday at Houlton, and MCI is back in action also on the road on Monday as they travel to Belfast to take on the Lions.
