The PVHS Lady Howlers visited Mattanawcook Academy Lady Lynx in a battle of the top teams in Class C girls basketball. Penobscot Valley earned the 35-29 victory.
The Lady Lynx got off to a great start with Addison Cyr scoring eight of her 15 in the first quarter. The Howlers answered back with Holly Loring draining two 3 pointers back to back in the second quarter. MA held a 17-12 lead at half time.
The third quarter belonged to the Lady Howlers, as sophomore Ellie Austin scored five quick points to erase the deficit. PVHS continued to control the game in the final quarter to survive on the road.
Holly Loring had 11 points, six rebounds, and five blocks for PVHS, while Austin added 10 points and seven rebounds. Lily Wotton and Addison Cyr combined for 26 of the 29 total points for Mattanawcook with 11 and 15 respectively.
Both teams are back in action on Monday as Penobscot Valley travels to face the Greenville Lakers, and Mattanawcook Academy will host the Stearns Lady Minutemen.
