The Deer Isle-Stonington girls basketball team beat Machias in a close 39-38 contest on Thursday, February 2nd.
Deer Isle-Stonington led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter and 24-20 at the end of the first half. The Mariners led 30-24 at the end of the third quarter.
Machias would take a one point 38-37 lead with 0:37 seconds remaining off a three pointer from Kristin Grant, but the Mariners would grab a late layup from Maddy Eaton to pull off the one point victory.
The Mariners were led by Maya Brown with a career high 15 points including 3 three-pointers. Macey Brown had 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Megan Wendell added eight points. DI-Stonington was 2-5 from the free throw line.
Grant had 13 points for the Bulldogs including 3 three-pointers. Skyler Tinker had 12 points, and Jadia Case had nine points including 2 three-pointers. Machias was 3-9 from the free throw line.
