The Old Town Coyotes outscored Foxcroft 22-10 in the final six minutes to pull out a 52-43 victory over the Ponies in a Maine Principals’ Association Class B quarterfinal game on Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center.
Both teams played strong defense in the first half as the Ponies held a 7-6 lead after the first quarter. Old Town outscored Foxcroft 14-10 in the second quarter to take a 20-17 halftime advantage.
The Coyotes scored the final five points of the third quarter to take a 31-28 lead heading into the final quarter. Foxcroft scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to take a 33-31 lead. That would be the final lead of the game for the Ponies. Grayson Thibeault scored 10 of his 12 points, including going 3-3 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Caden Crocker led the Ponies with 13 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Adam Conner added 11 points. Foxcroft finishes the season with a 13-7 record.
Brandan Mahaney led the Coyotes with 13 points and seven rebounds. Old Town (17-2) will play in a semifinal game on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 against undefeated and top seed Ellsworth.
