BANGOR- Taylor Loring had 19 points, and Saige Evans had a double double on Saturday to lead the Old Town Coyotes to a 57-25 Class B girls quarterfinal win over the Presque Isle Wildcats at the Cross Insurance Center.
Old Town jumped out to a 9-0 lead on three-pointers by Gabrielle Cody, Makayla Emerson, and Alexis Degrasse. Presque Isle scored for the first time on a pair of Anna Jandreau free throws four minutes into action to get on the board, but the Coyotes ran off 11 straight that stretched into the second quarter for an 18 point advantage. Loring had three 3-pointers in the first half alone as she helped her team to a 34-14 lead at the break. Old Town put it away by outscoring PI 19-5 in the third, and the 34 point margin at the end of that period was the largest of the day.
Loring made five 3-pointers to lead all scorers in the win for the top seed and now 19-0 Old Town. The team hit eight of them from long distance overall. Evans had 12 points and 13 rebounds, Cody added eight points and 10 rebounds, while Degrasse had eight points and Emerson six. Also scoring was Elizabeth Magoon and Izabella Damboise with two points a piece. The Coyotes outrebounded Presque Isle 35-15 and will face Houlton in a semifinal game on Wednesday morning at 11:30. The Wildcats end their season at 9-11 and were led by Jandreau who had eight points and five rebounds. Grace O’Connell had six points, Kariyln Gilmour five, and Jorja Maynard along with Georganna Curtis added three points each.
