BANGOR- Deer Isle-Stonington scored the first nine points and never looked back in a 45-21 win over Katahdin in a Maine Principals’ Association Class D girls basketball quarterfinal game played Monday morning at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Mariners held a 12-4 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Cougars 10-3 in the second quarter to expand the advantage to 22-7 at halftime.
Maya Brown and Macey Brown each had four points in the third quarter as the Mariners pushed the lead to 33-11 heading into the final eight minutes.
Deer Isle-Stonington shot 14-19 from the free throw line, while Katahdin shot 8-16 (7-9 in fourth quarter). The Mariners outrebounded the Cougars 33-17.
Macey Brown led the Mariners with 19 points, eight rebounds, eight steals, and four assists. Maya Brown added eight points, seven steals, and three rebounds. Rylee Dorr chipped in with eight points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Deer Isle-Stonington (14-5) will play in a semifinal game on Wednesday at 8:35 PM against Southern Aroostook.
Hunter Hartsgrove had 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals to lead the Cougars. Katahdin finishes the season with a record of 9-10.
