BANGOR- Three players scored in double figures on Wednesday morning, as Old Town never trailed and rolled to a 61-34 Maine Principals’ Association Class B girls semifinal win over Houlton at the Cross Insurance Center.
It was 3-3 early on, but Old Town then started pulling away going on a 12-0 run on a Gabrielle Cody basket, a three-pointer by Alexis Degrasse, a Cody three-pointer and a free throw, and a three point play by Saige Evans to put the Coyotes up 15-3. They led 17-8 after one quarter and built it to 33-18 at halftime on a last second long two point jumper by Danica Brown. They started the second half on a 7-0 run for a 40-18 advantage, forcing a quick timeout by Shiretowners coach Clyde Warman. His group responded with eight points in a row to get within 14, but Old Town was too much pulling away again and leading by that final margin of 27 twice late in the fourth quarter.
Evans finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds in the win. Cody also had 16 points to go along with eight rebounds. Makayla Emerson added 12 points. Also scoring for top seeded and now 20-0 Old Town was Degrasse with seven points, Taylor Loring six, and Brown along with Karina Dumond had two points a piece. Houlton was led by Gabby Gentle, Drew Warman, and Danlen Espenscheid who had seven points a piece. Emma Swallow added six points, while Ameilia Callnan had three, and Kaitlyn Kenney along with Tori Ervin had two points each. The Shires end their season with a record of 11-10. The Coyotes will now face Ellsworth in the regional final on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
