Dexter gets by PVHS to win first girls basketball regional championship since 2017

BANGOR- The Dexter Lady Tigers jumped out to a 14-3 lead after the first quarter and held on for a 34-27 win over Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) in a Class C girls regional final game played Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Center.

The Lady Tigers held a 20-10 halftime edge behind six points from Abi Corson and five from Hannah Dean. The Lady Howlers got the deficit within five in the second half. Behind strong inside play from Mazie Peach, the Lady Tigers held on for the seven point win and their first regional championship since 2017.

Holly Loring put in a game high 15 points for the Lady Howlers. Ellie Austin had nine points and six rebounds. PVHS finishes the season with a record of 19-2. Corson had 11 points (3 three-pointers) to lead the Lady Tigers. Dean added 10 points and four rebounds, while Peach had six points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks. Jozylnn Paige had four points, while Cally Gudroe filled up the stat sheet with three points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Dexter (20-1) will play Old Orchard in the state championship game on March 4th at 7:05 PM at the Cross Insurance Center.
