The Penquis Patriots softball team will be looking to build on a season where they were very competitive in the majority of their games.
Penquis had a record of 4-10 last season, but that doesn’t show the competitiveness and ability of the Patriots squad. Out of the 10 losses, six of those were by three runs or less.
”Our expectations for this year are for our four seniors to step up and provide the team with strong leadership, as we have a younger group this year. Our younger players will have big roles to fill after our seniors graduate, so we will be working with them diligently to prepare them for next year,” Penquis coach Hazen Conlogue said. “I expect our team to play with grit and tenacity, all while keeping a high energy and positive environment. Our greatest strengths will be our eight returning players and promising freshmen this year.”
“We also expect that our fielding skills will aid in success this season, as we have been vigorously working on fundamentals with our seasoned players as well as our younger players,” Conlogue said. “One of our weaknesses last year was our hitting, so this year we are focusing strongly on offense in general, but especially our batting mechanics and aggressive baserunning. We as a team are hoping to see a dramatic change in our record this year, and are hoping to have a deep playoff run.”
Joining Conlogue on the coaching staff is Jason Heal and Kayla Goodine.
