School/Sport: Maine Central Institute Girls Tennis
Coach: John Buys
Record: 11-1 for the regular season, Team Seminfinalists in postseason, Gomez was the MPA singles champion.
Expectations: “We are looking forward to players stepping up into new positions on the team,” Buys said. “It’s hard to have expectations when there are so many intangibles to work with here, but we continue to build community and excitement around tennis.”
Strengths: We have a lot of energy for our program. We have robust numbers and some talented returning and new players to make up our tennis ladder.
Weaknesses: “Losing Lidia Gomez puts a lot of pressure on the top of our ladder, but we also graduated three other seniors who were important players all across our ladder,” Buys said. “It’s always exciting to see MCI’s combination of local and residential students from around the world on MCI’s roster. It’s a unique offering of our school. Right now our roster has seven countries represented: Germany, Italy, Korea, Spain, Vietnam, Ukraine, and the United States.”
