The Woodland Dragons pounded out 12 hits on Wednesday, and rolled past Machias 8-2 in a high school baseball game played in Baileyville.
Woodland got things moving in the first inning when Brogan Brown hit an RBI double on a 3-2 pitch. The Dragons scored three more runs in the fourth inning. The offense was led by Seth Nicholas and Wyatt Cropley, who each had RBI in the inning. Evan Curtis earned the victory on the hill. The righthander surrendered two runs on five hits over a complete 7.0 inning effort, striking out seven and walking none.
Mickey Fitzsimmons took the loss for the Machias Bulldogs. Fitzsimmons allowed seven hits and five runs over 3.2 innings, striking out four and walking none.
Woodland (4-0) was led by Shain McIver and Nicholas who both had multiple hits. McIver went 3-for-4 at the plate. Cody Jones led Machias with two hits in three at bats. The Dragons play at Calais, and the 1-1 Bulldogs play at Shead both on Friday at 4 p.m.
