DEXTER— Gage Ellis struck out seven in six innings on the mound and Nate Ashey went 4-5 at the plate to lead Searsport to a 7-3 win over Dexter in a high school baseball game played on Monday afternoon.
The Vikings took advantage of errors by the Dexter defense and scored five unearned runs in the first two innings. Ashey and Brady Clements each had two hits in their first two at bats. Clements doubled in the second inning scoring two runs.
Dexter got their first run when Willis Rienhardt and Gage Beaudry hit back to back doubles in the bottom of the second inning.
Ellis controlled the middle innings, retiring 10 out of 11 hitters during a stretch that lasted through the fifth inning. The Vikings put up two insurance runs in the sixth inning as they took advantage of three walks and got a run scoring hit from Kyle Larrabee.
The Tigers cut the deficit to four with two runners on base and one out in the seventh inning. Coach John Frye came out for a mound visit. Ashton Ellis followed that up with two strikeouts to end the game.
Will Spratt and Ben Bourgoin had two hits each for the Tigers. Spratt took the loss on the mound despite not allowing any earned runs. He allowed seven hits, two walks, striking out four, while allowing five unearned runs in five innings. Dexter (3-7) will host Bucksport on Wednesday.
Clements had three hits, two runs, and two RBI for the Vikings. Oliver Carbisiero had three RBI. Ellis allowed one run on 8 hits, and didn’t issue any walks. Ashton Ellis pitched the final inning, allowing two runs and striking out two. Searsport (7-1) will host Stearns on Wednesday.
