After winning four of five games, including taking two out of three over their old friend Xander Bogaerts and the San Diego Padres over the weekend, the Boston Red Sox were swept in a three game set by the Los Angeles Angels which included a 7-3 setback on Wednesday night in the final game of the series at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
Los Angeles (28-23) took an early lead and never looked back. Gio Urshela had a second inning RBI sacrifice fly, and Zach Neto added a three-run homerun in the same frame off Boston starter James Paxton that put the Angels up 4-0. Shohei Ohtani had a solo homer in the third, and Mike Trout also went deep with a two-run shot in the fourth. Kike Hernandez had an RBI double, Connor Wong a solo homerun, and Rob Refsnyder had a run scoring single for the Red Sox (26-24).
Paxton (1-1) allowed five runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts in 3.0 innings in taking the loss on the mound. Refsnyder led the offense with two hits. Neto had three hits for Los Angeles, and Tyler Anderson (2-0) only allowed one run on five hits on the hill in a 6.0 inning effort. Boston begins the final series of the nine game road trip on Friday night at 9:40 in Arizona against the Diamondbacks.
