The big free agent acquisition of the Boston Celtics, center Kristaps Porzingis, was given a two year contract extension by the team on Wednesday according to multiple reports.
The final deal for the Latvian big man is three years, $96 million, keeping him in Boston through the 2025-26 season. Porzingis, who was drafted by the New York Knicks in 2015 went on to also play for the Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards. Last season with Washington he played the most games in a regular season since 2016-17 (65) and recorded a career high in points (23.2), assists (2.7), and steals (0.9). He had 20 double doubles with the Wizards and shot a career high 49.8% from the floor. He’s now shot 45% or better in three consecutive seasons. He was also one of only three players in the league to average 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.0 block during the 2022-23 campaign (Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid). The Celtics were part of a three team deal back on June 21 that brought Porzingis to them, that in part also sent one of their team leaders Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies.
