Hunter Curtis had two RBI and also pitched a complete game on Sunday afternoon, as the Trenton Acadians ended a phenomenal 2023 season with their first ever Senior American Legion Baseball World Series victory by defeating League City, Texas 4-2 on the final day of pool play at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, North Carolina.
Trenton fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI double by Tyler Robinson. The Acadians didn’t have any hits through four innings against League City starting pitcher Tyler Austin, but did tie it in the top of the fourth as Hunter Curtis walked and came across to score on a two-out error. They took the lead for good in the fifth when Dawson Curtis was hit by a pitch to lead off, and Colin Sullivan had their first hit of the day when he doubled off the base of the left centerfield wall for a 2-1 advantage. Hunter Curtis drove in his brother with the eventual game winner with a two-out RBI single. Ayden Roecker-Allen got League City within a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, but Hunter Curtis came through again with an RBI single to left scoring Brett Bragdon in the seventh inning to end the scoring on the afternoon.
Hunter Curtis had two of the four Trenton hits in the victory, and also was credited with the pitching win allowing just one earned run on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts in the 7.0 inning complete game effort. Chase Bourgeois and Brice Smith both had two hits in the first loss of the World Series for League City, Texas who had already advanced to Mondays semifinals with a win over defending champion Troy, Alabama on Saturday night. Austin gave up three earned runs on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings in the defeat. The Acadians season ends with a final record of 21-7.
